Their are several measuring techniques used to measure light in certain place but this article will consider only areal photo-metric measurements. It is measured in lumens per square meter (lm/m2), or lux (lx):
Illuminance is for light incident on a surface
The lux (symbol: lx) is the SI unit of illuminance and measuring luminous flux per unit area. It is equal to one lumen per square metre.
The foot candle (symbol: fc) is commonly use units measuring luminas flux per unit area. It is equal to one lumen per square foot.
